Activision Remastering Again? Original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Re-Rated

Australia's classification board has re-rated the 2009 original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, sparking speculation that Activision may bring the game back to modern consoles, following its earlier ports of Black Ops and Black Ops 2.

IT之家 November 1 news, according to foreign media Insider Gaming’s report the day before yesterday, the Australian Classification Board recently re-classified the original 2009 game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and some players speculate that Activision will bring the game back to modern console platforms in the future.

According to the report, this rating did not disclose the game’s platform, and was only labeled as “computer game.” However, generally speaking, a game receiving a rating means an official announcement is imminent, so the outside world is speculating that Activision is preparing to bring this title back.

There is already precedent for this approach. Earlier this year, Activision ported the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 to PS4 and PS5 platforms, and these two games likewise received ratings in Australia. However, the PS4/5 versions only provided basic improvements and bug fixes, without major graphical upgrades. Both games performed quite well in sales, and Activision may have seen the commercial value of reheating classic titles.

IT之家 understands that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launched on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 platforms in 2009. A high-definition remaster of this game was released in 2020, containing only the campaign mode, and launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
