IT之家 October 29 news, according to the tech media outlet TechRadar today, the latest research report from Gallup shows that the work engagement of American employees has fallen to a historic low. People who work remotely and in hybrid arrangements are even more lacking in work enthusiasm, and a lack of clear understanding of AI is also affecting employees’ job satisfaction.

The organization pointed out that in the third quarter of 2026, the work engagement of American employees was 29%, falling to the lowest level since 2011. For comparison, the U.S. work engagement indicator was 36% in 2020 and fell to 31% in 2024.
IT之家 noted that compared with the previous quarter, the work engagement of fully remote employees fell by 5 percentage points, and that of hybrid employees fell by 2 percentage points. In contrast, the work engagement of on-site employees fell by only 1 percentage point.
At the same time, Gallup has previously found that among positions whose nature of work allows remote work, fully remote workers and hybrid workers feel worse about work expectations compared with on-site workers.
As for AI, Gallup believes that research earlier this year showed that employees’ attitudes toward AI and their work engagement may have recovered somewhat, but this trend has now reversed. The survey shows that in companies that integrate AI into workflows, employee engagement is basically comparable to that in companies that have not yet adopted AI. At the same time, remote employees once again show lower satisfaction and work engagement.
