GOG Platform Hopes to Revive Physical PC Games, Faces Two Obstacles

GOG hopes physical PC games, which have been absent for decades, can one day make a comeback. However, rebuilding the physical PC game supply chain is very complex, and GOG would also need additional authorization from publishers.

IT Home November 1 news, according to a report today by gaming media GamesRadar, the GOG (IT Home note: Good Old Games) platform, which is dedicated to selling DRM-free digital games, recently hopes that physical games for PC, which have been extinct for decades, can one day see a revival.

GOG Senior Business Development and Partnerships Manager Marcin Paczynski said: “Ideally, I would like players to be able to buy physical games on GOG. You could go into the GOG game library, click on the physical edition of the game you want, place an order, and the product would be delivered to your hands.”

However, this kind of plan sounds more like an unattainable dream. Because re-establishing a PC physical game supply chain is a very complex matter, and the business GOG currently operates has nothing to do with physical goods.

Marcin Paczynski believes: “We have to consider logistics and warehousing issues, and in addition we also need to obtain additional authorization from publishers before we can release physical games. This idea has been discussed internally at our company for many years, and I hope it can be realized one day in the future.”
