Gurman: Apple Plans to Retire Non-Touchscreen MacBook Pro Models Next Year, Keeping Only 14-Inch Base Model

Apple plans to phase out all non-touchscreen high-end MacBook Pro models when it launches the second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro in 2027, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The 14-inch base MacBook Pro will get an M7 chip and a new thinner, lighter design but will not support touch.

IT之家 November 2 news: Apple last week launched its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, featuring M5 Pro/M5 Max chips. However, Apple is still selling the M5 Pro/M5 Max versions of the MacBook Pro that were released in March of this year. According to people familiar with the matter, this situation of conflicting product positioning will not last long.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed that Apple plans to phase out all non-touchscreen high-end MacBook Pro models from its existing laptop lineup when it launches the second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro in 2027. The 14-inch base model MacBook Pro will be upgraded to the M7 chip and will adopt an all-new thin-and-light chassis design, but will not support touch input.

Compared with the current MacBook Pro, the touchscreen MacBook Pro is priced $400 higher (IT之家 note: approximately 2,668 yuan at the current exchange rate), and the price increase is enough to put pressure on non-professional consumers. The $1,999 (approximately 13,335 yuan at the current exchange rate) base model MacBook Pro remains the entry-level choice in Apple’s professional product line, offering a higher-quality display, more comprehensive ports, and stronger performance compared with the MacBook Air.
