IT之家 October 27 news, Microsoft pushed the latest Windows 11 preview build last Friday local time. In addition to noteworthy changes such as the newly added built-in internet speed test, Microsoft is also testing a new embedded feature that allows subscribers to directly re-enable auto-renewal within the Windows Settings app.

Microsoft says this new feature is aimed at users who already have a Microsoft 365 subscription but have turned off auto-renewal. Instead of redirecting to a separate webpage, the system can now display “Turn on auto-renewal” or “Set up auto-renewal” options directly on the Settings home page, the account page, and even in the Start menu.

Microsoft says the feature is meant to simplify subscription management, and that is indeed true. At the same time, it also gives Microsoft one more channel to showcase Microsoft 365 to users inside Windows 11.
For example, if you have subscribed to Microsoft 365 and later turned off auto-renewal, Windows can directly remind you within the system to turn it back on.
IT之家 notes that shortly before launching this new feature, Microsoft had just lowered the total OneDrive storage limit included with Microsoft 365 Family and Premium from 6TB to 2TB, an adjustment that many subscribers found hard to accept. Of course, there is currently no indication that the two matters are related, but the reduction in Family plan storage quota may have already led some users to reconsider whether to continue their subscription.
At this stage, the feature is only being tested in Windows 11 preview experimental build 26340.9767, and Microsoft will roll it out gradually. As with other experimental features, there is no guarantee that it will launch to all users in its current form.
However, if this feature eventually makes it into the official version of Windows 11, users who proactively turned off auto-renewal may keep receiving reminders, as Microsoft hopes they will re-enable auto-renewal.
