IT Home October 30 news, on the evening of October 29, Sony officially released the RIALTO 65 camera extension system built for the flagship digital cinema camera CineAltaV 2 (overseas name: VENICE 2), which will officially go on sale in the first half of 2027.

RIALTO 65 features a 65mm-format image sensor (1.5:1 aspect ratio), extending the CineAltaV 2 system to the 65mm-format specification.

The image sensor in RIALTO 65 is approximately 53.75mm wide and approximately 35.83mm high, with a diagonal length of approximately 64.60mm, making it one of the largest image sensors mounted on a commercially available cinema camera, with a photosensitive area approximately 2.2 times that of a 35mm full-frame image sensor.

RIALTO 65 supports two working modes: Extension Mode, in which the camera head is used separately from the CineAltaV 2 body, and Studio Mode, in which the camera head is mounted directly on the body.

According to the official statement, users can also continue to enjoy the color science developed for CineAltaV 2, including 16-bit X-OCN in-camera recording, mature control logic, and existing production workflows.

The RIALTO 65 camera head is compact and lightweight, measuring approximately 115mm × 154mm × 63mm (width × height × depth) and weighing approximately 1.5kg. The system supports 9.6K 1.5:1 Open Gate readout, making full use of the sensor’s wide photosensitive area for flexible framing; it also supports a 9.6K 2.20:1 readout mode with a diagonal of approximately 59.04mm, adapting to more types of lenses. In the future, Sony will provide more readout modes through firmware upgrades for the CineAltaV 2 body.

IT Home has learned that users can choose a base ISO of 2500 or 10000 according to the shooting environment and creative intent. At a base ISO of 2500, RIALTO 65 can achieve 15+ stops of latitude.

RIALTO 65 does not include a lens mount and supports the addition of third-party lens adapters suitable for the corresponding production and lenses, allowing users to choose from a variety of lenses, including 65mm-format lenses. When paired with lenses and adapters that support communication with the camera, lens parameters such as focal length, focus position, and aperture value can be recorded as metadata and used in workflows such as editing, VFX, and virtual production.

When shooting with anamorphic lenses, the system supports various ratios of de-squeeze display and Zoom to Fit functions to confirm the field of view and framing.

In addition, the system is equipped with 11 built-in electronic-contact insert-type ND filters. After an ND filter is inserted into RIALTO 65, CineAltaV 2 can automatically recognize the filter density.
