Sony Xperia 10 VIII/10 VII Phones Receive Android 17 Update, Miss Out on Android-iOS File Transfer Feature

Sony has pushed the Android 17 update to the Xperia 10 VIII and Xperia 10 VII, but the two phones cannot fully experience all new features, including Quick Share cross-platform support and the upgraded AI camera assistant.

IT之家 November 5 news, the tech media Android Authority published a blog post yesterday (November 4), reporting that Sony has pushed the Android 17 update to the Xperia 10 VIII and Xperia 10 VII, but the above two phones cannot fully experience all the new features of Android 17.

IT之家 attaches the relevant screenshots as follows:

According to the official statement, after the Xperia 10 VIII and Xperia 10 VII phones upgrade to Android 17, there are upgrades in the personalized interface. This update expands the “Wallpaper and style” feature, brings new wallpaper and clock designs, and supports users in customizing the shape and style of icons.

The new version improves the Quick Settings panel; users can adjust the size and arrangement of tiles, and larger tiles can also display brief descriptions.

This Android 17 update also enhances the screen recording feature; users can choose to record the entire screen or only the current app, and can also record the device’s internal sound and microphone sound at the same time, which is more friendly to users who need to make tutorials, demonstrations, or game videos.

In terms of feature limitations, the Xperia 10 VIII and VII will not be able to use Quick Share’s cross-platform interconnection support, nor will they get the upgraded AI camera assistant, and they will not be able to experience Android 17’s desktop mode.

It is also worth noting that Sony previously said the Xperia 10 VI would be adapted to Android 17, but changed its plan in October. Sony said that due to the model’s “storage configuration limitations,” it ultimately decided not to provide this update to the Xperia 10 VI.
